A beautiful Bharatnatyam performance by CV Chandreshekhar’s group appealed to all. The traditional Indian performance left everyone talking about the good ol’ days when people played gulli-danda, flew kites and juggled balls. Said a guest, “This dance has taken me back to the days I used to play hopscotch in my village.”
THE PEOPLE: Sheila Dikshit inaugurated the festival. The man behind the show, Sanjeev Bhargava, was spotted enjoying himself. He said, “The best part is that performers have maintained purity in the dance form and have also kept it simple enough for everyone to understand. That’s is the interesting bit about Bharatnatyam.” Also awed by the performance were Amy, Alexandra and Juana. “It was an enthralling performance, we enjoyed it hugely,” said Amy, who’s travelling around the world.
A DISAPPOINTED FAN: Abdul from Ethiopia was sad, as he couldn’t watch the show. “I got stuck in traffic. No sooner did I settle in my seat than the performance came to an end. But I shall come again,” he said.
FOR MY ALBUM: Canadian ambassador David Malone appreciated the Bharatnatyam recital and clicked some pictures too. And he sure did look nice in his traditional ensemble.
